Wikipedia / New World Translation

howdy all - i'd like to enlist the help of some of the bible experts on this forum.

the main jehovah's witnesses article on wikipedia has been pretty thoroughly filled with correct and embarassing wts doctrine.

we've been able to get the disfellowshipping and shunning section to stick, as well as mention of the "examination period" of 1914-1919, and general slaughter at armageddon.

I had no idea that Wikipedia is written by just anyone on the net who wishes to register and post. What a travesty. An encyclopedia should be written by various experts in the subject matter covered. Thanks for an eye-opening post.

Thanks for enjoying the pranks. I was completely and utterly "freaked" at being arrested for arson. Larry (the cop) is a mellow dude for a cop.

I was always a hellion growing up. Starting at age sixteen I hung around with teens who were as nuts as I was. I wasn't able to stay involved in the Witnesses for very long at a stretch before I was gone and back with my pals raising hell. It got way out of hand when I was 19 and the WTBTS finally DFed me. I literally lost my mind for about 8 months or so. Went beyond raising hell to actual crime.

I've been friends with members of the Outlaws, Hell's Angels, and Fly N Wheels in my 19th year. No way I would have played pranks on anyone who carried a gun like I did. (A snub nosed 22 with hollow points my dad gave me when I was 16)

When I pulled these pranks I was still young enough to not really give a damn. I was only 26. My age has doubled since then. Plus, yes, Mark and I were both lucky.

I'm nearing completion on my next book which is about how I became involved with the JW's, what my life as a JW was like, and what my life became when they DFed me.

Thank you for a well thought-out response. I agree with you. It's difficult to understand certain reactions in light of what the WTBTS put us through. I don't think Oroborus read the post carefully enough to realize just how long ago the pranks were. Though I still occasionally play small pranks, and have them played on me.

During the election I sent insane emails from President Bush out to hundreds of people. They circulated quite a bit. I even had a couple of them forwarded to me from folks who had no idea I was the one who started them circulating in the first place.

Thank you for enjoying the post, and having a good perspective on some old pranks. You're very welcome for the laughs. Most of the respondents, such as yourself, brought a big smile to my face.

I think Oroborus probably didn't understand the pranks are 26 years old. That, or she/he simply wanted attention. Thank you for coming to my aid.

I'm a fairly typical old fart of my generation. Except I'm not politically conservative. Mainly I write, do housework, play on the net, cook, shop for groceries, exercise a bit.

When I retired I was a home health aide and a priest of Hongaku Jodo.

My dad and step-mother reside in Grand Blanc. "It's a small world after all..." My oldest sister Jackie lives in Cass City as does my mother. Next door to Jackie so she can drive Jackie to distraction.

It's been five or six years since I've been to Michigan. I should probably visit soon. It had been so long since my sister Jackie and I had seen each other we weren't sure of the others identity when we saw each other at the airport. She looked at me very uncertainly and said "Nathan?"

Thanks for dropping by! I'm pleased as punch (how is punch pleased???) to have given you some good laughs.

I became addicted early on to pranks, and have played plenty. I've had some doozies played on ME and I've loved them! Of course, none of the pranks pulled on me took any of my money away or broke anything I owned. My friends, knowing how much I enjoy a well planned and executed prank, did them to me. For instance, Larry the cop on the Ann Arbor PD. I met him when he and his partner pulled me over on my 25th birthday and arrested me for arson! They handcuffed me and stuck me in the back of the squad car. I was ready to piss my pants! Then they started laughing at me. I asked them what was so dammed funny and Larry said, "You are Nate. You look good in cuffs!" A dear friend, Annette, who is now deceased, had put them up to it. She was dating Larry's partner. Whose name escapes me.

You betcha we did! The excitement bred more pranks. Our wives were stunned.

To this day, when Mark and I are together, we're likely to stop in at a church and do things such as leave anti-christian tracts in the hymnals. I superglued a plastic Jesus figurine to a pulpit of a Disciples of Christ church about 10 years ago. They had unwisely left the sanctuary unlocked.

Around the same time that Mark and I were pulling these stunts we were also putting together a 90 minute slide presentation (videocams were very expensive back then) on the Mormon church. We titled it "Mormonism; An Expose." We traveled aroundf Michigan with it for a couple of months and made our money back (and then some!) from donations. We played up the humor angle and most people loved it.
